TODAY IS NATIONAL PAUL BUNYAN DAY!

And we have the perfect bike for the occasion.

Today, June 28th, is National Paul Bunyan Day and BIKETOWN is celebrating with our newly released Paul Bunyan bike. This bike is one of five winners of the BIKETOWN Community Design Challenge celebrating Portland's history of innovation and design in transportation and the arts.

One winning design was selected for each of the five quadrants of Portland and for North Portland that design was Ride Paul Bunyan Ride, created by local artist Teresa Bubb. Her original idea was interpreted by the design team at Nike, the presenter of the Design Challenge. The result is a fun, and fun to ride, homage to an iconic character who is still larger than life in the Kenton neighborhood of Portland.

Members of the Kenton Business Association committee, Paint Paul, that raised funds to renovate the statue last year and keep a great history of the statue, came out for the release over the weekend in Arbor Lodge Park at Sunday Parkways. We met a few more of them today at the Paul Bunyan statue for a photo with the bike.

"National Paul Bunyan Day is a great opportunity to celebrate not just the release of the most recent BIKETOWN design, but also to celebrate Oregon’s rich history. Paul Bunyan was constructed for Oregon’s Centennial Exposition and serves now as a Kenton neighborhood highlight and as a roadside attraction for the many adventurous spirits that visit Portland annually. Paul Bunyan Day is a great opportunity to come visit our iconic statue and tour our diverse and exciting neighborhood. Hop on a BIKETOWN bike today and stop by to see our recently renovated Paul!" -Mo Bachmann / Kenton Business Association President

While Paul isn't in the BIKETOWN service area yet, you can ride out to admire him and enjoy a coffee in Kenton before returning to the service area to lock up.
