Smashing records

BIKETOWN riders rode free all May

In May 2018, BIKETOWN and PBOT celebrated Bike Month with free rides for all. We saw a HUGE increase in ridership! Riders took a total of 79,399 rides and rode 164,252 miles. You more than doubled the number of trips ridden in May of 2017!

We set new one-day trip records nine times, with a new all-time high of 4,792 trips on Sunday, May 27! This smashed the previous record by over 1,000 trips. Over 14,000 Portland locals rode BIKETOWN in May (61% of all riders). Of those, over 11,000 were new BIKETOWN riders.

Since BIKETOWN’s launch in July 2016, BIKETOWN riders have taken over 621,000 trips and ridden over 1,250,000 miles.

Throughout the month, BIKETOWN riders were able to ride free and park free to any bike rack in the entire BIKETOWN service area. New and existing BIKETOWN riders qualified for ninety minutes of free ride time per day. BIKETOWN riders were also able to park their bikes to any bike rack within the BIKETOWN service area for no additional fee.

Heading into June, we’re pleased to offer simplified and reduced pricing with options for all types of riders. Current BIKETOWN members can find out more here if you’d like to change your membership type. Annual members will retain the ability to park for free at any public bike rack in the expanded service area! We’re also thrilled to have expanded that area, now incorporating neighborhoods further east, reaching the 50s bikeway.

Now’s the perfect time to ride. See you in the bike lanes!
